Our book club takes place within the Tea with Tolkien discord server.

There will be a Text Channel for each section of the book club, where participants can join to discuss at any time during the book club.

We also meet in the server’s voice channel at specified times to voice chat.

If you are unable to join via voice but would like to listen along, that is okay! There is also a text chat element to the voice channels so you can join via text for these sessions.

Once you have joined the discord, you can create a help ticket by visiting the #the-beacons-are-lit channel to connect with the moderators.

To ensure that everyone feels comfortable joining in on the voice chats, they will not be recorded. However, I do take notes during our discussion and the notes will be published after the fact so anyone who missed out can get a good summary. If time allows, I will also record these notes as an audio file and upload to youtube/podcast.

The dates listed on the discussion schedule are the dates on which the text channels will open for discussion. This means that you should have read the specified reading material before joining the text chat, to avoid spoilers. So if the discussion opens on June 1st, you should have read that material before June 1st.

Announced dates and times for voice chat events are in Eastern Standard Timezone.

Eastern Standard Time (EST) is 5 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

In the discord server, “Event” times will reflect your own timezone according to your app settings.
